Lake Tarawera Fishing

Dawn is a favourite time for fishing on Lake Tarawera. As the sun peeps over the rim of the mountain of the same name, the lake comes alive with rising trout. The fly fisherman casts with renewed vigour, willing the rainbow trout to accept his offering with the telltale tug which sets the heart racing.

Trout Fishing

One of the most desirable features of Waitangi Lodge must be the through of catching fish from the pristine waters of Lake Tarawera .

Whether by boat or from the beach at the end of the garden! Lake Tarawera is home to magnificent Rainbow Trout, the average being 8Ib!

Trout Stream

The Waitangi Stream flows from the waterfall, through the gardens, and out into Lake Tarawera. This is an important spawning stream for the wild Tarawera Rainbow Trout.

Between early May and October, the whole stream is full of spawning trout. Many specimen fish can be seen in full breeding colours in the gin clear water.

The Lake itself is highly prized by game fishermen who travel from far and wide in the hope of landing ‘the big one’!

Boathouse

The Boathouse also comes complete with a bar and fully retractable dance floor which can accommodate up to 25 people.

It also has a wood burning stove, toilet and shower room.

Where else in the world can you just go out and catch your lunch in such beautiful paradise!
